Not every fridge noise is a sign of a fault. Some are perfectly normal (refrigerant circulating, panels expanding), others signal wear. Here is how to tell them apart.

Appliance not level or touching a cabinet

My fridge is loud on and off, is that serious?
If it still cools properly, it is usually vibration (an unlevel appliance, contact with a cabinet) or a fan obstructed by ice. A growing hum together with a loss of cooling, however, points to the compressor.
